- Mt. Kenashi Hiking
-
Selected as one of Japan’s 200 most famous mountains, Mt. Kenashi has an altitude of 1,964 meters. The majestic Mt. Fuji and Asagiri Plateau are visible from the ridgeline. Plants, rivers, and waterfalls dot the mountain, which shows the beauty of each season to hikers.
The ridgeline forms the border between the prefectures of Shizuoka and Yamanashi, and on the Shizuoka side, the field that stretches all the way to the summit belongs to Fumotoppara. With a height difference of about 1,100 meters, the hiking course generally takes about six hours roundtrip and is suited for intermediate and advanced hikers.
During the Sengoku Period (Warring States Period from the late 15th to late 16th century), the Jizo Pass Route was mined for gold on the slopes of Mt. Kenashi. You will encounter relics of the gold mining days, such as gold ore crushers and the remains of kilns and residences along the mountain trail.
- MTB
-
Mountain bikes have wide, rugged tires that are stable on dirt roads. The handlebars are wider than on road bikes and cross bikes, so you can hold them firmly and ride stably even offroad.
Mountain bikes also have suspension that absorbs shocks from the road surface for comfortable runs on rough roads.

- What is Kenashiyama?
- Kenashiyama, or Mt. Kenashi, is the mountain that towers right behind Kenashi Sanso at an altitude of 1,994 meters.
During the Warring States Period (late 15th to late 16th century), the mountain prospered with gold mining and was called Fuji Gold Mine (Fumoto Gold Mine). Today, it is crowded with hikers seeking a panoramic view of the Asagiri Plateau. Benefitting from the bounties of Mt. Kenashi, Fumotoppara manages the forest of the mountain and other areas. Kenashi Sanso was renovated using the timber from Mt. Kenashi.
